KATJA BERGER

Katja Berger is a visual artist based in Vienna. At the center of her work is the human being – not as a subject, but as a starting point: encounters, conversations, and personal experiences form the foundation of her artistic practice. She is interested in what resonates unspoken between people – intimacy, memory, physicality, and those subtle emotional in-between spaces.

Berger sees art as a potential catalyst for both personal and societal transformation. Her practice evolves through dialogue – with others, with herself, and with the present moment. Interdisciplinary exchange and current social issues play a central role in her approach. Viewers are invited to become part of a process in which the private opens up to the universal.

Many of her works feel like memories – fragmentary, poetic, and quietly powerful. Her artistic output includes painting, collage, and photography. Berger was an artist-in-residence at the Exploration Space of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (2018–2022) and at the Ars Electronica Research Institute – Knowledge for Humanity (2019–2023). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is represented in both private and institutional collections. It has been featured at the Ars Electronica Festival and in publications such as the "BioCultural Manifesto" and "Community Creates Mobility".
