jana köstler

Jana Köstler is a textile artist, painter, and social designer working across material- and process-based practices. Her work examines the tensions between empowerment and vulnerability, engaging with patriarchal violence, gendered inscriptions, and transgenerational continuities.

She trained in tailoring at the Residenztheater Munich and subsequently continued her education in industrial model making. Her practice is informed by experience in product and costume design for film productions at HFF Munich, collaborations with textile clients, and her work as a fashion designer at Allude in Munich. She later expanded her focus toward social design and co-creative methodologies, contributing to participatory urban development projects while developing her independent artistic practice in her studio at the community and exhibition space NODEPRESSIONROOM.

Jana Köstler studied Industrial Design and Social Design at the Munich University of Applied Sciences and Social Design - Arts as Urban Innovation at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, also attending painting classes by Katharina Schilling.
