Janine Schranz (CH, 1985) is a visual artist and photographer living and working in Vienna (AT) and Switzerland.
In her artistic work she is working at the intersection of photography and architecture – questioning techniques of inclusion and exclusion within a given architecture or within the image field. In its essence, she understands photography as a time-based medium and puts bodily-spatial experiences in relation to visual perception. Her projects combine photo-related printing techniques, video, glass objects and a collaborative working practice.
She studied photography (Zurich University of the Arts, Switzerland) and transdisciplinary arts (University of Applied Arts, Vienna). Janine has received various international fellowships and awards, including a Residency at Palazzo Trevisan in Venice from Pro Helvetia (2023), at Cité internationale des Arts in Paris from visarte Zentralschweiz (2023), in New York (Canton Schwyz, 2016) and Amsterdam (The Ausrian Federal Chancellery, 2021); the Startstipendium for photography (Federal Ministry of Austria) and the Promotion of Young Photographers (Pro Helvetia, 2015). Her most recent projects have been shown at the following venues: Fondation Suisse (Paris, 2023), 229 Lab (Paris, 2023), Alte Fabrik (Rapperswil, 2023), Mz. Baltazar‘s Laboratory (Vienna, 2022), school (Vienna, 2022), Kunstmuseum Luzern (2022), New Jörg (2020, Vienna) and Brux Freies Theater Innsbruck (2018).
