Born in Kiew (Ukraine) in 1985, Nika Kupyrova grew up in Prague (Czech Republic) and currently finds her creative home in Vienna. She studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and Iceland University of the Arts and holds an MA degree in transdisciplinary art from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
With her main medium being sculpture, the artist appropriates everyday objects, found text and pop culture phenomena, proposing the bridges between the visual and the textual languages where you don’t expect to find them. Since 2008 Nika Kupyrova maintains an active artistic practice including participation in the II and III Moscow International Biennale of Young Art and exhibitions in the internationally acclaimed institutions including WIELS Contemporary Art Centre (Belgium), Mattress Factory Museum of Contemporary Art (USA), National Center for Contemporary Art Moscow, LENTOS Kunstmuseum Linz (Austria) and Meetfactory Centre for Contemporary Art Prague.
Nika Kupyrova is also active as a curator and lecturer, with recent talks in Kunsthalle Bratislava (Slovakia), University of Art and Design Linz (Austria) and ARTos Cultural and Research Foundation (Cyprus). Since 2016 she has been a collaborator of media theory research project www.ocopy.net lead by Franz Thalmair and Michael Kargl and supported by the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
